Christer Sjösten
Christer Sjösten (2 September 1948 – 9 December 1979) was an international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. He earned 8 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Speedway career Sjösten was a four time Swedish finalist in 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1977. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1971 to 1979, riding for Wembley, Exeter, Coatbridge and Poole. In the Swedish Speedway Team Championship he rode for Masarna, Indianerna, Smederna, Lindarna, Bysarna and Getingarna. He died at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia on 9 December 1979, following a serious accident at the Brisbane Exhibition Speedway during a tournament 8 days earlier. Following his death his older brother Sören Sjösten (one of the world's leading riders) retired. The Brisbane Showgrounds (formerly known as the Brisbane Exhibition Ground) is a multi-purpose venue located in Bowen Hills, Queensland, Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Australia. Masarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Avesta (locality), Avesta, Sweden. They last rode in the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien during the 2022 Swedish Speedway season but are currently not racing due to financial problems. They are two times Swedish Speedway Team Championship, champions of Sweden. History 1937 to 1964 The club was founded in 1937 as the Folkare Motorklubb but their first track at Nordanö (between Jularbo and Krylbo) was built in 1948. The club joined the Swedish second division in 1958 Swedish speedway season, 1958 (which was known as the Allsvenskan (speedway), Allsvenskan from 1982).
