Chris Nicholl
Christopher John Nicholl (12 October 1946 – 24 February 2024) was a professional footballer who later worked as a coach and manager. A centre-back, Nicholl began his playing career at Burnley, but moved to Witton Albion after failing to break into the Burnley team. After spells at Halifax Town and Luton Town, he joined Aston Villa in 1972, winning the Football League Cup in 1975 and 1977. After five years at Aston Villa, Nicholl joined Southampton. In 1983, he joined Grimsby Town before retiring in 1984. Born in England, Nicholl made 51 appearances for the Northern Ireland national team scoring three goals. He was part of the Northern Ireland squad for the 1982 FIFA World Cup. In his managerial career, Nicholl began at Southampton and spent six seasons at the club before being dismissed in 1991. Garry Birtles (born 27 July 1956) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a forward in the Football League between the 1970s and 1990s. He is best known for his time at Nottingham Forest, during which he won the 1979 and 1980 European Cup Finals. He was also capped three times by England. He is the cousin of actress Sherrie Hewson. Sam Wynne
Samuel Wynne (26 April 1897 – 30 April 1927) was a footballer who died while playing in a Football League First Division match. Career Wynne played as a right back and started his career in local-league football with Neston Colliery. He later had a spell with Welsh side Connah's Quay & Shotton United before joining Football League club Oldham Athletic at the start of the 1921–22 season. In 1923, Wynne became the first player to score two goals for both sides during Oldham's Football League First Division match against Manchester United. In 1976, Chris Nicholl became the second top tier player to achieve this feat playing for Aston Villa against Leicester City. Wynne stayed with Oldham for five seasons, making 145 league appearances in total, scoring nine goals.
