Chris Hinchliff
Christopher Volante Hinchliff (born December 1993) is a British Labour Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Hertfordshire since 2024. He was previously a North Hertfordshire District Councillor for Royston Palace. Early life and education Christopher Volante Hinchliff was born in December 1993. He was educated at The Howard of Effingham School in Surrey and King's College, Cambridge, where he read history and was a member of Cambridge University Labour Club. In 2016, he graduated with an MSc in ecological economics from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to his election to Parliament, Hinchliff was the policy and campaigns officer for the Campaign to Protect Rural England. Winter Fuel Payment
The Winter Fuel Payment is a state benefit paid once per year in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland to some people old enough to have been born before a specific date. It is intended to cover the additional costs of heating over the winter months. While it was introduced in 1997 as a universal benefit for pensioners, it was controversially changed in 2025 so that it is only offered to pensioners who receive means tested benefits such as pension credit. The 2024 North Hertfordshire District Council election was held on Thursday 2 May 2024 to elect members of North Hertfordshire District Council in Hertfordshire. It was held alongside the other local elections in the United Kingdom. New ward boundaries come into effect for this election, increasing the number of councillors from 49 to 51. Summary Prior to the election the council was under no overall control, being led by a coalition of Labour and the Liberal Democrats. Following the election, the council remained under no overall control. Labour was still the largest party and increased its number of seats, but fell one short of winning an overall majority. Labour And Co-operative Party
Labour and Co-operative Party (often abbreviated to Labour Co-op; ) is a description used by candidates in United Kingdom elections who stand on behalf of both the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party. Candidates contest elections under an electoral alliance between the two parties, which was first agreed in 1927. This agreement recognises the independence of the two parties and commits them to not standing against each other in elections. It also sets out the procedures for both parties to select joint candidates and collaborate at a local and national level.
