Chopping (astronomy)
Chopping is a technique used with infrared telescopes to minimize interference from external or internal heat. The chopper is the mechanism that rocks a mirror (typically a secondary mirror) inside a telescope back and forth in rapid succession because background radiation would change too quickly to measure otherwise. Drawbacks There are two major drawbacks to using the method of chopping. First is the variance of the background radiation. This can change when the telescope is shifting between the beams making thing appear strange. Secondly, this method can only be used when the object in question is not too far away, because otherwise it would be out of the telescope's range. Infrared Telescopes Main: Infrared telescope With Infrared Telescopes, chopping is used to eliminate the background radiation by taking pictures at slightly different angles. By comparing separate images, it becomes much easier to tell what the background heat is and what is coming from the object in qu ...

Chopping (violin)
Playing the violin entails holding the instrument between the jaw and the collar bone (see #Posture, below for variations of this posture). The strings are sounded either by drawing the Bow (music), bow across them (''Bow (music), arco''), or by plucking them (''pizzicato''). The left hand regulates the sounding length of the strings by stopping them against the fingerboard with the fingers, producing different pitches. Posture It is possible to play the violin holding it in a variety of ways. Most players hold the lower bout of the instrument between the left shoulder and the jaw, often assisted by a semi-permanently attached chinrest and detachable shoulder rest. If held properly under the chin, the violinist can let go of the instrument with their hands and it will stay there firmly. Other common ways to hold the instrument include the seated Carnatic music, Carnatic attitude, with the scroll resting on a foot, or the dancing-master's "Kit violin, kit" or "''pochette''" hold ...

Chopping The Blinds
In poker games with blinds, chopping the blinds is a custom that may occur when all other players fold to the blinds before the flop. The blinds then remove their bets, ending the hand. Chopping the blinds is a common occurrence in live ring games, whereas it is not allowed in tournament play (the small blind must raise, call or fold and cannot reclaim their bet), and is seldom, if ever, possible in play on the internet. Why players chop Players generally chop for one of two reasons. #Many players do not enjoy playing heads-up, and would rather play multi-way pots, so if the first few players at a table fold rather than calling the big blind, the entire table may fold. In this case, chopping is more of a social custom. #Chopping allows the blinds to avoid paying the rake for a hand that is unlikely to develop into a large pot. In this case, chopping is more of an economic decision. In higher limit games, players tend to be tighter, and it is more common for everyone to fold ...

Virtual Tuning
Virtual tuning, colloquially known as 'chopping' or 'VTuning', is the 2D graphical modification of images of automobiles with the use of raster graphics editing software. Modifications such as aerodynamic and aftermarket body-kits, wheels, front mount inter-coolers and carbon fibre body panels, as well as interior or race car modifications, are super-imposed on a stock image in order to increase its aesthetic appeal. Whilst some designs are realistic in nature, one of the reasons why virtual tuners chop is to try modifications that may not be technically feasible if translated to real life . Virtually tuned cars are the complete and comprehensive makeovers of ordinary cars. Artists Artists who undertake virtual tuning, usually refer to themselves as 'choppers' though this term is fast disappearing as many try to improve their professional appearance. For the most part, they do it for their own pleasure – as a hobby – however, there is a small percentage of artists who earn an ...
