Capital XTRA (formerly Choice FM) is a British digital radio station owned and operated by Global Media & Entertainment, Global. It broadcasts on 96.9 and 107.1 FM broadcasting, FM in Greater London, and nationally on Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB, Global Player and television platforms. It specialises in hip hop music, hip hop, grime (music genre), grime and Contemporary R&B, R&B music, and is a commercial competitor to BBC Radio 1Xtra. As of September 2024, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 1.7 million listeners, according to RAJAR. History Choice 96.9 Choice Digital, Choice 96.9 began as an independent company in March 1990, broadcasting from studios in Trinity Gardens, Brixton. Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) is a digital radio international standard, standard for broadcasting digital audio radio services in many countries around the world, defined, supported, marketed and promoted by the WorldDAB organisation. The standard is dominant in Europe and is also used in Australia, and in parts of Africa and as of 2025, countries using DAB/DMB, 55 countries are actively running DAB broadcasts as an alternative platform to analogue FM. Buzz FM was a United Kingdom radio station which was on the air between 1990 and 1994. It was broadcast to Birmingham on 102.4 MHz, and was launched as the city's fourth radio station after BBC Radio WM, BRMB and Xtra AM. The signal came from a transmitter on the roof of Metropolitan House in Edgbaston.
