Provinces Of Angola
Angola is divided into twenty-one provinces, known in Portuguese language, Portuguese as ''províncias''. On 14 August 2024, Angola's National Assembly (Angola), National Assembly approved a law to create three new provinces: * Cuando Cubango Province was divided into Cuando Province and Cubango Province; * Icolo e Bengo Province was separated from Luanda Province; and * Moxico Leste Province was separated from Moxico Province. This law went into effect with its publication in the official gazette of Angola on 5 September 2024, and are expected to become operational in 2025. Lunda Norte () is a province of Angola. It has an area of 103,760 km² and a population of 862,566. Angola's first President, Agostinho Neto, made Lucapa the provincial capital after independence, but the capital was later moved to Dundo. The province borders the Democratic Republic of Congo in the northeast and Lunda Sul in the south. The province is rich in gold and diamonds, but remains vastly underdeveloped and impoverished. UNITA used the money generated from the sale of diamonds to fund war efforts. Cuango River valley, the richest diamond area of Angola is located in the province. Mining is done by notable companies like DeBeers and Endiama. The Lunda province whose capital was Saurimo was created by the Portuguese colonial empire on July 13, 1895. Dundo
Dundo, or Dundo-Chitato, is a former mining town, with a population of 177,604 (2014), now a city and the provincial capital of Lunda Norte Province, Lunda Norte in Angola. Established in the early part of the 20th century as a planned diamond mining community, Dundo has continued to grow, has its Dundo Airport, own airport and is now being superseded by a new city, New Dundo.
