Chinley
Chinley is a rural village in the High Peak Borough of Derbyshire, England, with a population of 2,796 at the 2011 Census. Most of the civil parish (called Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside) is within the Peak District National Park. Historically, before the coming of the railway, the area was economically dominated by agriculture. Nowadays most inhabitants commute out of the village to work; accessible centres of work include Stockport, Sheffield and Manchester. Location Chinley lies in the Blackbrook Valley. To the north is Cracken Edge, a once-quarried promontory of Chinley Churn, a large, prominent hill with a pass followed by the A624 named Chinley Head. Brown Knoll commands the skyline on the eastern border of the civil parish, with South Head and Mount Famine to the north-east. Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside is a civil parish within the High Peak, Derbyshire, High Peak district, which is in the county of Derbyshire, England. Partially rural with several villages contained within, its population was 2,794 residents in the 2021 census. The parish is north west of London, north west of the county city of Derby, and north of the nearest market town of Chapel-en-le-Frith. Being close to the edge of the county border, it shares a boundary with the parishes of Chapel-en-le-Frith, Edale, Hayfield, Derbyshire, Hayfield, New Mills and Whaley Bridge. Chinley Railway Station
Chinley railway station serves the rural village of Chinley in Derbyshire, England. The station is south east of Manchester Piccadilly, on the Hope Valley Line from Sheffield to Manchester. It is unstaffed and is managed by Northern Trains. History The original station was built in 1867 by the Midland Railway on the extension of its Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, which became its main line to London from Manchester. Originally, the Midland had planned to extend through Buxton, but the LNWR already had a line there. So, the Midland built a line through Chinley and Buxworth to join the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway at New Mills; this was an association which became known as the Sheffield and Midland Railway Companies' Committee. New Smithy
New Smithy is a hamlet in the civil parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside, Derbyshire, England, near the village of Chinley. It sits on the A624 trunk road from Glossop to Chapel-en-le-Frith featuring a TOTSO where left carries one down to Chapel and right heads to Chinley. There is a railway bridge over the turning, used for both freight and passengers, on the Hope Valley Line to Sheffield and Manchester; very close down the line is Chinley railway station. Next to this the Crown & Mitre pub, now converted into residential flats, is the main landmark and there are a couple of residential housing streets and terraces, and one or two businesses. Chinley Churn
Chinley Churn is a prominent gritstone hill between the villages of Chinley and Hayfield in the Derbyshire Peak District, England. The summit is above sea level. The hilltop ridge area is designated as open access land, following the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. The trig pillar at the lower secondary summit further south is on private land. Craken Edge Quarry (worked from at least 1640 until the 1900s) is designated a Regionally Important Geological Site. Chapel Milton
Chapel Milton is a hamlet on the outskirts of Chapel-en-le-Frith on the road leading from there to Chinley and to Glossop. Within the parish of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside, it takes its name from the site of a medieval corn mill, Maynstonfield Mill, or “Mainstonefield alias Chinley”. This mill was erected near a stream called Hockholme Brook, which is no longer marked though is thought to converge with the Black Brook at Chapel Milton. Originally built in 1391 for £12 4s 1d, the mill (which adjoined what is now Milton House) was demolished in 1946. The hamlet is notable for two major features. The first is Chapel Milton Viaduct, bifurcating double railway viaduct crossing the Black Brook, tributary to the Goyt, on which Chapel Milton is situated. Chapel-en-le-Frith
Chapel-en-le-Frith () is a town and civil parish, in the Borough of High Peak, Derbyshire, England. It has been dubbed the "Capital of the Peak", in reference to the Peak District, historically the highland areas between the Saxon lands (below the River Trent) and the Viking lands (which came as far south as Dore, Sheffield). Hope Valley Line

Buxworth
Buxworth is a village in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. The area, which was once an important centre for the limestone industry, became the terminus of the Peak Forest Canal. Its pub, the Navigation Inn, was once owned by ''Coronation Street'' actress Pat Phoenix. The village lies almost from Whaley Bridge and about southeast of Manchester. Name change The village was originally called Bugsworth, from the Old English ''Bucga's Worth'' ("Bucga's Enclosure"), but in the early 20th century some residents began to dislike the name of their village; their cause was championed by the local vicar, Dr J R Towers, and the village school headmaster, Mr W T Prescott. Whaley Bridge () is a town and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the High Peak Borough Council, High Peak district of Derbyshire, England. Mount Famine
Mount Famine is a gritstone hill between the villages of Hayfield and Chinley in the Derbyshire Peak District, England. The summit is above sea level. The hill's name originates from the period of the inclosure acts (from the late 18th century) when tenant farmers struggled to make a living from poor farming land. A round Bronze Age burial mound on the west side of the hill is about wide. It was identified by J Barnatt in 2014.
