China At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The People's Republic of China, the previous host of the 2008 Olympics at Beijing, competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the United Kingdom, between 27 July and 12 August 2012. This was the nation's ninth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1952. A total of 396 Chinese athletes, 171 men and 225 women, were selected by the Chinese Olympic Committee to compete in 23 sports. For the fourth time in its Olympic history, China was represented by more female than male athletes. China left London with a total of 88 medals – 38 gold, 27 silver, and 23 bronze – finishing second only to the United States in the global medal standings. Darya Vitalyevna Pishchalnikova (, born 19 July 1985 in Astrakhan) is a female discus thrower from Russia. Pishchalnikova is the sister of Bogdan Pishchalnikov and Kirill Pishchalnikov. Tatyana Viktorovna Lysenko (, born 9 October 1983 in Bataysk) is a Russian hammer thrower. Her career has been blighted by repeated doping infractions. In February 2019, the Court of Arbitration for Sport handed her an eight-year ban for doping, starting from 2 July 2016. Zhang Wenxiu (, born 22 March 1986 in Dalian, Liaoning) is a retired Chinese female hammer thrower. Career She won the 2005 Asian Championships and 2006 Asian Games. She finished tenth at the 2001 World Championships, seventh at the 2004 Olympics, fifth at the 2005 World Championships and fourth at the 2006 World Cup. Gong Lijiao (; born 24 January 1989) is a Chinese Olympic shot putter and the 2020 Olympic champion in that event. A five-time Olympic player and a three-time Olympic medalist, she holds a record eight medals at the World Athletics Championships, including two world titles. Liu Hong (; born 12 May 1987) is a Chinese race walker. She is the world record holder over the Olympic 20km distance with a time of 1:24:38 hours, set in 2015. Qieyang Shijie (; , Amdo Tibetan language: ɕʰeɣjaŋ ʂcəl born 11 November 1990), also known as Qieyang Shenjie or Choeyang Kyi; is a Chinese race walker.
