Chief Scout (Scouting Ireland)
The Chief Scout is the leader of Scouting Ireland. As Chairperson of the National Council and National Management Committee the Chief Scout is responsible for co-ordinating the activities of the Association with the help of the National Team for Policy Implementation and Co-ordination. The role is a volunteer one, normally elected every third year at National Council, and works with the CEO, the head of the professional staff function of the association. The first Chief Scout elected was Martin Burbridge, a former member of Scouting Ireland (CSI). He stepped down in September 2008, and four others have held the role since then. Term of office The Chief Scout, is elected by secret ballot at the Annual General Meeting, for a term of three years. The Chief Scout may be re-elected for one further term of three years. Scouting Ireland
Scouting Ireland () is one of the largest youth movements on the island of Ireland, a voluntary educational movement for young people with over 45,000 members, including over 11,000 adult volunteers . Of the 750,000 people between the ages of 6 and 18 in Ireland, over 6% are involved with the organisation. It was founded in 2004, following the amalgamation of two of the Scouting organisations on the island. It is the World Organization of the Scout Movement-recognised Scouting association in the Republic of Ireland. In Northern Ireland it operates alongside The Scout Association of the UK and the Baden-Powell Scout Association. Sea Scouting () has existed in Ireland since 1912 and is a popular programme framework within Scouting Ireland. Sea Scouting Groups operate as autonomous, volunteer-led community groups. Sea Scouting Groups operate in the same way as other Scout Groups except have a stronger focus on water safety, seamanship training and activities on the water. The programme is designed to foster a love of adventure on the water alongside building technical activity skills and leadership afloat. Rover Scout (Scouting Ireland)
Rover Scouts in Scouting Ireland are aged between 18 and 26 years of age. It is a new section and is being set up in many universities around the country. The main activity done in the Rover Section is the Explorer Belt but there are a number of other activities that Rover Scouts are involved in, such as International Service Projects. Explorer Belt The Explorer Belt was traditionally linked to the Venture Scout Section, but since the introduction of ONE Programme the Explorer Belt is now done by Rover Scouts. Rover Scouts, in teams of two, walk a distance of at least 200 km in 10 days completing tasks along the way. These tasks include maintaining a log of the journey, consisting of a daily route, menu, budget and account of the day's activities. "Mailchimp" is the trade name of its operator, Rocket Science Group, an American company founded in 2001 by Ben Chestnut and Mark Armstrong, with Dan Kurzius joining at a later date. Single Transferable Vote
The single transferable vote (STV) or proportional-ranked choice voting (P-RCV) is a multi-winner electoral system in which each voter casts a single vote in the form of a ranked ballot. Voters have the option to rank candidates, and their vote may be transferred according to alternative preferences if their preferred candidate is eliminated or elected with surplus votes, so that their vote is used to elect someone they prefer over others in the running.
