Chicoutimi—Le Fjord
Chicoutimi—Le Fjord (formerly known as Chicoutimi) is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1925. The riding consists of the northern part of the Chicoutimi borough of Saguenay, as well as the La Baie borough and the municipalities of Ferland-et-Boilleau, L'Anse-Saint-Jean, Petit-Saguenay, Rivière-Éternité and Saint-Félix-d'Otis and the unorganized territory of Lalemant. It was created as "Chicoutimi" riding in 1924 from Chicoutimi—Saguenay. It was renamed "Chicoutimi—Le Fjord" in 2000. The neighbouring ridings are Manicouagan, Beauport—Côte-de-Beaupré—Île d'Orléans—Charlevoix, and Jonquière. Richard Martel won the 2018 by-election. Following the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution, the riding gained the municipalities of Saint-David-de-Falardeau, Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Saint-Fulgence, and Saint-Honoré from Jonquière. Sainte-Rose-du-Nord
Sainte-Rose-du-Nord () is a village on the north shore of the Saguenay River in Quebec, Canada. The site was known, from 1801 to 1933, as La Descente-des-Femmes. Amerindian women awaited the return of the men from fishing, and would meet them by descending from the heights to the shore. The patron saint of the parish, Rose of Lima, chosen for reasons unknown, was the first saint canonised in the New World. The specifier -du-Nord was added in 1933, when the post office was established. Residents are known as Roserains. The parish was first established in 1838. The economy is based primarily on tourism. The village is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Quebec. There has been some agriculture and logging. Formerly, wood was floated from the wharf to paper mills. 2022 Canadian Federal Electoral Redistribution
A redistribution of federal electoral districts ("ridings") began in Canada following the results of the 2021 Canadian census. The Constitution of Canada requires that federal electoral districts that compose the House of Commons undergo a redistribution of boundaries following each decennial Canadian census. The redistribution process began in October 2021; it was completed in October 2023. It is based on data obtained during the 2021 Canadian census. It is also based on the practice of giving each district only one member, which has been in effect since the 1968 election. The changes to the federal electoral district boundaries took effect for the 2025 Canadian federal election, which was the first general election called after April 22, 2024. 2018 Chicoutimi—Le Fjord Federal By-election
A by-election was held in the federal riding of Chicoutimi—Le Fjord in Quebec on June 18, 2018, following the resignation of incumbent Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal MP Denis Lemieux. The seat was gained by the Conservative Party of Canada, with Richard Martel winning on a large Swing (politics), swing of 19 points, becoming the new MP. The result was a surprise as in the 2015 Canadian federal election, 2015 election, the conservative candidate had come in 4th place. Martel's victory was the first by-election loss for the Liberals since 2013.
