The Chicago Pacific Corporation was a shell corporation created from the remains of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. It managed to use much of the capital made from the liquidation of the Rock Island to acquire non-rail ventures such as The Hoover Company, Pennsylvania House/Kittinger, Inc., and Rowenta. Chicago, Rock Island And Pacific Railroad
The original Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CRI&P RW, sometimes called ''Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway'') was an American Class I railroad. It was also known as the Rock Island Line, or, in its final years, The Rock. At the end of 1970, it operated 7,183 miles of road on 10,669 miles of track; that year it reported 20,557 million ton-miles of revenue freight and 118 million passenger miles. The Hoover Company is a home appliance company founded in Ohio, United States, in 1908. It also established a major base in the United Kingdom, where it dominated the electric vacuum cleaner industry during most of the 20th century, to the point where the Hoover Genericized trademark, brand name became synonymous with vacuum cleaners and vacuuming in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Hoover North America was once part of Maytag, but was sold by Maytag's new owners Whirlpool Corporation in 2007 to Hong Kong multinational manufacturing company Techtronic Industries for $107 million. Rowenta is a German manufacturer of small household appliances. Since 1988, it has been part of the global French Groupe SEB. The German subsidiary is Rowenta Werke GmbH in Erbach in the Odenwald district in Hesse. History Robert Ferdinand August Weintraud (1860–1927) founded Robert Weintraud GmbH & Co KG in 1884, and trademarked the brand name Rowenta, an amalgamation of the company's full name, in December 1909. Maytag
The Maytag Corporation is an American Home appliance, home and commercial appliance company. The company has been owned by Whirlpool Corporation since April 2006. History The Maytag Washing Machine Company was founded in 1893 by businessman Frederick Louis Maytag I, Frederick Maytag. In 1925, Maytag Washing Machine Company became Maytag, Inc. Frederick's son Elmer Henry Maytag took over as president of the company from 1926 until his own death in 1940. In the early 1930s, photographer Theodor Horydczak took pictures of the plant and some of its workers. During the Great Depression of the 1930s the company was one of the few to make a profit. In 1938, Maytag provoked Strike action, strikes by the company's workers because of a 10% pay cut.
