The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; , ''BSE'') is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. After 2002, the encyclopedia's data was partially included into the later ''Great Russian Encyclopedia'' in an updated and revised form. The GSE claimed to be "the first Marxist–Leninist general-purpose encyclopedia". Vopli Vidopliassova ( , ), also shortened to VV (), is a Ukrainian rock band. It was created in 1986 in Kyiv, Kiev, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (now Kyiv, Ukraine). The leader of the band is singer Oleh Skrypka. Vopli Vidopliasova are the founders of Ukrainian rock-n-roll style and neo-ethnic rock. They first sang Ukrainian rock outside Ukraine. Their influences include folk, patriotic songs, punk, hard rock, heavy metal and, most recently, electronic music. Ukrainian Flag
The national flag of Ukraine (, ) consists of equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. The blue and yellow bicolor flag was first seen during the 1848 Spring of Nations in Lemberg (Lviv), the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria within the Austrian Empire. It was later adopted as a state flag by the short-lived Ukrainian People's Republic, the West Ukrainian People's Republic, and the Ukrainian State following the Russian Revolution. In March 1939, it was also adopted by Carpatho-Ukraine. However, when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, the use of the bicolor flag was banned, and it was replaced by the flag of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. The Lion's Society (), also colloquially referred to as the ''Leveniata'' () is a cultural non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Ukraine. Founded in 1987, the Lion's Society played an important role in the revival of Ukrainian culture in Galicia prior to and during the 1989–1991 Ukrainian revolution, both as the results of its own actions and from the several organisations which split off from it. The Ukrainian Helsinki Union (, abbreviated UHS) was a political party active in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1988 to 1990.
