Checkmate (comics)
Checkmate, a division of Task Force X, is a fictional Intelligence agency, covert operations agency appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The antihero team first appeared in ''Action Comics'' #598 (March 1988) and proceeded to have its own ongoing title in ''Checkmate!'' In the wake of events depicted in the mini-series ''The OMAC Project'' and ''Infinite Crisis'', Checkmate is re-chartered as a United Nations Security Council-affiliated agency and was again given its own series, ''Checkmate'' (vol. 2). Amanda Belle Waller (née Blake), also known as "the Wall", is a fictional character featured in some American comic books published by DC Comics. Captain Atom
Captain Atom is the name of several superheroes appearing in American comic books, initially owned by Charlton Comics before being acquired in the 1980s by DC Comics. All possess some form of energy-manipulating abilities, usually relating to nuclear fission and atomic power. Doom Patrol is a superhero team from DC Comics. The original Doom Patrol first appeared in ''My Greatest Adventure'' #80 (June 1963), and was created by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney, along with artist Bruno Premiani. Checkmate
Checkmate (often shortened to mate) is any game position in chess and other chess-like games in which a player's king is in check (threatened with ) and there is no possible escape. Checkmating the opponent wins the game. In chess, the king is never actually captured. The player loses as soon as their king is checkmated. In formal games, it is usually considered good etiquette to resign an inevitably lost game before being checkmated. In the field of comic books, and particularly in the United States, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues.
