Charlie Moore (baseball)
Charles William Moore Jr. (born June 21, 1953) is a former professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily as a catcher and outfielder (1973–1987). He played 14 seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, and one season with the Toronto Blue Jays. Early years Moore attended Minor High School in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama and played quarterback on the football team. He originally planned to attend Auburn University on a football scholarship, but in June 1971 was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round of the 1971 MLB draft and elected to play professional baseball instead. He played in the Brewers' minor league system from 1971 through 1973, with the short season Class A Newark Co-Pilots (1971), Single-A Danville Warriors (1972), Double-A Shreveport Captains (1973), and Triple-A Evansville Triplets (1973). Charles William Moore (3 June 1898 – 9 March 1966) was an English footballer who played as a full back for Manchester United. Born in Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, he played for Hednesford Town before joining United in May 1919. After two seasons, a recurring injury forced Moore to stop playing football, but in September 1922 he returned to play for United for a further eight years, making a total of 328 appearances for the club before retiring at the end of the 1929–30 season. Moore became most-capped United outfield player who never scored for the club. Charles Moore (23 September 1905 – December 1972) was an English footballer who spent his entire professional career with Bradford City playing 339 league games. Career Born in Worksop on 23 September 1905, Charlie Moore started his football career with nearby Manton Colliery before signing with Bradford City in October 1926 as an inside forward. He scored on his debut in a 4–3 win over Manchester City on 18 December 1926 and, later the same season, played five games alongside his brother Fred. He concluded the season with eight goals, finishing as joint top goal-scorer. He moved to centre forward the following season, during which he scored 16 league goals to again be top goal-scorer, including five against Nelson. He was limited to just 14 games in 1928–29 but scored seven goals as City won Division Three (North). He dropped into the half back line after the club signed new forwards. Walter Charles Moore (24 September 1875 – 12 May 1901) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Albert Park Football Club (VFA), Albert Park and Sydney Swans, South Melbourne in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and for Essendon Football Club, Essendon in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). He served as a Trooper (rank), trooper in Second Boer War, the Anglo-Boer War, but died of wounds after a battle. He was the first Fijian-born player in the VFL/AFL and the List of Victorian Football League players who died on active service#The Anglo-Boer War, first VFL player to die on active service in any war.
