Charles Carson (16 August 1885 – 5 August 1977) was a British actor. A civil engineer before taking to the stage in 1919, his theatre work included directed plays for ENSA during WWII. In the United States, it was released under the alternative title ''Forever Yours''. The film was made at Isleworth Studios. ''Scrooge'' is a 1935 British Christmas fantasy film directed by Henry Edwards and starring Seymour Hicks, Donald Calthrop and Robert Cochran. Hicks appears as Ebenezer Scrooge, the miser who hates Christmas. It was the first sound version of the Charles Dickens classic ''A Christmas Carol'', not counting a 1928 short subject that now appears to be lost. Hicks had previously played the role of Scrooge on the stage more than 2000 times beginning in 1901, and again in a 1913 British silent film version. This was the first film to be released by the Twickenham Film Distributors, Ltd., founded by Julius Hagen and Arthur Clavering. Hagen acted as producer for the new company, with Clavering handling film distribution. Stylistically it leans heavily towards German Expressionism and the films of Fritz Lang, involving dark shadows and darkened edges. The script sticks very closely to Dickens' words. Composition and initial success Composer Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi and poet Mikhail Matusovsky wrote the song in 1955 with the title "Leningrad Nights" ( rus, Ленинградские вечера, Leningradskije večera, ), but at the request of the Soviet Ministry of Culture, the song was renamed "Moscow Nights" and made corresponding changes to the lyrics. In 1956, "Moscow Nights" was recorded by Vladimir Troshin, a young actor of the Moscow Art Theatre, for a scene in a documentary about the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic's athletic competition Spartakiad in which the athletes rest in '' Podmoskovye'', the Moscow suburbs. ''Sanders of the River'' is a 1935 British film directed by the Hungarian-British director, Zoltán Korda, based on the stories of Edgar Wallace. It is set in Colonial Nigeria. The lead Nigerian characters were played by African Americans Paul Robeson and Nina Mae McKinney. The film proved a significant commercial and critical success, giving Korda the first of his four nominations for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival. Plot Sanders (Leslie Banks) is a colonial District Commissioner in the Colonial Nigeria. He tries to administer his province fairly, including the various tribes comprising the Peoples of the River. He is regarded with respect by some and with fear by others, among whom he is referred to as "Sandi" and "Lord Sandi".
