Chardonnières () is an arrondissement in the Sud department of Haiti. Spanning approximately , it comprises three communes– Chardonnières, Les Anglais, and Tiburon. As of 2015, it had a population of 78,410 inhabitants. It stretches from the coastline of the Caribbean Sea into the Massif de la Hotte highlands. The economy is based on agriculture, livestock, fishing, and crafts. The annual Grape Festival is a popular celebration. Geography Chardonnieres is an arrondissement in the Sud department of Haiti. 2021 Haiti Earthquake
At 08:29:09 EDT on 14 August 2021, a magnitude7.2 earthquake struck the Tiburon Peninsula of southern Haiti. It had a 10-kilometre-deep (6.2 mi) hypocenter near Petit-Trou-de-Nippes, approximately 150 kilometres (93 mi) west of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Tsunami warnings were briefly issued for the Haitian coast. At least 2,248 people were confirmed killed and more than 12,200 injured, mostly in the Sud Department. An estimated 650,000 people were in need of assistance. At least 137,500 buildings were damaged or destroyed. It is the deadliest earthquake and deadliest natural disaster of 2021. Massif De La Hotte
The Massif de la Hotte () is a mountain range in southwestern Haiti, on the Tiburon Peninsula, Haiti, Tiburon Peninsula west of the Petit-Goâve-Jacmel fault. About 2.5 million years ago, Massif de la Hotte was separated from the Massif de la Selle by a deep, wide sea channel, and formed a separate island. This resulted in a hotbed of endemism in la Hotte's bird, plant, and reptile communities. The Massif de la Hotte is subdivided into the Oriental la Hotte in the East, the central la Hotte, and the Occidental la Hotte on the western tip of the Tiburon peninsula. Chardonnières (; also Les Chardonnières; ) is a commune in the Chardonnières Arrondissement, in the Sud department of Haiti. Chardonnière is the largest producer of grapes in Haiti.
