Chandler is an outer south-eastern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Chandler had a population of 1,442 people. Geography Chandler is south-east by road from the Brisbane GPO. The suburb is bounded to the east by Tingalpa Creek () and its southern boundary extends into the Tingalpa Reservoir (). The easternmost point of Chandler is the easternmost point of the City of Brisbane mainland (but the easternmost point of the City as a whole is on Moreton Island considerably further east). Chandler is a semi-rural suburb consisting largely of bushland and residential properties on acreage, close to the major commercial precincts of Carindale and Capalaba. Moreton Island
Moreton Island (Mulgumpin) is an island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay on the coast of South East Queensland, Australia. The Coral Sea lies on the east coast of the island. Moreton Island lies northeast of the Queensland capital, Brisbane. 95% of the island is contained within a national park and a popular destination for day trippers, four wheel driving, camping, recreational angling and whale watching and a 75-minute ferry ride from Brisbane. It is the third largest sand island in the world. Together with Fraser Island, Moreton Island forms the largest sand structure in the world. James Warner (surveyor)
James Warner (1814–1891) was a pioneer surveyor in Queensland, Australia. Arriving at Moreton Bay penal colony in 1838, he was one of three surveyors who surveyed the area now Brisbane and its surrounding areas. He worked for 50 years in the Survey Office of Queensland, surveying and naming many towns and other features. Career Warner was one of the three surveyors (the other two being Robert Dixon and Granville Stapylton) sent by New South Wales Governor George Gipps to the Moreton Bay penal colony, arriving on the ''Sarah Jane''. Their first task was to make a coastal survey and then to survey Brisbane and the surrounding districts in preparation for the closure of the penal colony and the opening of the area for free settlement in 1842. A ford is a shallow place with good footing where a river or stream may be crossed by wading, or inside a vehicle getting its wheels wet. A ford may occur naturally or be constructed. John Beals Chandler
Sir John Beals Chandler (21 February 1887 – 19 January 1962), frequently referred to as J. B. Chandler, was the Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 1940 to 1952, and the Member for the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, representing the electorate of Hamilton from the October 1943 by-election to the 1947 state election, where he chose not to seek re-election. In 2021 John Beals Chandler was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame. Personal life John Beals Chandler was born in Bunwell, Norfolk, England, on 21 February 1887. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane is the chief executive of the City of Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, and the head of the Brisbane City Council.
