Chachagüí () is a town and municipality in the Nariño Department, Colombia. The municipality is home to Antonio Nariño Airport, the most important in the region and a means of air access to San Juan de Pasto, the department's capital. Nariño Department
Nariño () is a department of Colombia named after independence leader Antonio Nariño. Its capital is Pasto. It is in the west of the country, bordering Ecuador and the Pacific Ocean. Nariño has a diverse geography and varied climate according to altitude: hot in the plains of the Pacific and cold in the mountains, where most of the population resides, a situation that is repeated in a north-south direction. Other important cities include Tumaco and Ipiales. History The territory was occupied during the Pre-Columbian era by numerous Indian tribes, including Quillacingas, Awá, Pasto, and Tumas. The first European conquistador who entered the territory was Andagoya Pascual in 1522, who traveled from the Colombian Pacific coast and then used information obtained by Francisco Pizarro to organize the expedition that culminated in the conquest of Peru. Antonio Nariño Airport
Antonio Nariño Airport (, ) is an airport located in the town of Chachagüí and which serves the city of Pasto in the Nariño Department of Colombia. The airport is north of Pasto. It handles only domestic flights in addition to military operations and private charters. A new terminal, administrative and tower control were built, also new navigation equipment was set up due to the increasing number of passengers and cargo flights. Usually Airbus 318, 319, 320, Boeing 737, 727, turboprop and different types of smaller aircraft use the airport Runway The airport has a table top runway, built on a plateau of 50 meters because of the surrounding terrain. Due to this, many Pilot (aeronautics), pilots refer to the airport as an aircraft carrier. The runway is also relatively short for the elevation of the airport.
