Ceylan Önkol
Ceylan Önkol (16 September 199728 September 2009) was a 12-year-old Kurdish girl who was killed by a howitzer by the Turkish military while she was pasturing sheep in Hambaz (Xambaz) hamlet of Şenlik village in Turkey's southeastern Lice district in Diyarbakır province on September 28, 2009. In the early days, the incident was thought to have occurred as a result of the explosion of a mortar shell allegedly thrown from the Tapantepe Police Station. However, according to the forensic medical report issued on 16 October, Ceylan struck an unexploded mortar shell in the countryside with a metal-powered device and caused it to explode, which resulted in her death. Lice, Turkey
Lice (; ; ; ) is a Districts of Turkey, district and town of Diyarbakır Province, Turkey. Its area is and population is 24,364 (2022). It is located 90 km from the capital, Diyarbakır, and the current kaymakam, governor of the town is Kerem Yenigün. The town is populated by Kurds. The district of Lice traces its roots all the way back to Mesopotamia and ancient Assyria, and its history is significantly diverse across multiple ethnic groups. Kayapınar, Diyarbakır
Kayapınar is municipality and district of Diyarbakır Province, Turkey. Its area is 480 km2, and its population is 419,513 (2022). It covers the northwestern part of the city of Diyarbakır and the adjacent countryside. The district Kayapınar was created in 2008 from part of the central district (''Merkez'') of Diyarbakır. In the local elections of 31 March 2019, Keziban Yılmaz was elected Mayor with 66.35% of the votes. On the 21 October 2019, he was detained due to an investigation concerning propaganda for a terror organization and being a member of a terror organization. During the Mayorship of Zülküf Karatekin, there was an unnamed park in the town. The Kayapinar Park was named Rosna by the Municipality in 2008, but this name was rejected by the Governorship of Kayapinar. Rezan Zuğurlu
Rezan Zuğurlu was mayor of the Turkish district of Lice in Diyarbakır Province. She is a member of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP). Personal life Zuğurlu was born into a family of Kurdish activists and grew up in southeastern Turkey during an armed uprising for political rights among the Kurdish people. She considers herself a feminist and hopes her position as mayor would help better the lives of women in the district. Tarkan (singer)
Tarkan Tevetoğlu (; born 17 October 1972) is a German-born Turkish singer-songwriter. Since the early 1990s, with his successful albums, he has been a prominent figure of pop music, recognized both in Turkey and worldwide. Tarkan was born and raised in Alzey, Rhineland-Palatinate, in the-then West Germany. In 1986, he moved to Turkey together with his family. Tarkan, who had been interested in music since his childhood, went to high school at Karamürsel and took music lessons. In the following years, he met the owner of İstanbul Plak, Mehmet Söğütoğlu, and signed a contract to release his albums. Sezen Aksu (; born Fatma Sezen Yıldırım; 13 July 1954) is a Turkish singer, songwriter and producer. She is one of the most successful Turkish people, Turkish singers, having sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Nazan Öncel (; born 6 February 1956) is a Turkish singer-songwriter. She also does the arrangements for most of them and has written songs for such singers as Tarkan and İbrahim Tatlıses. Biography and career In 1978, her song "''Sana Kul Köle Olmuştum''" ("I Had Become Your Slave"), written by Erdener Koyutürk and Özdener Koyutürk, was aired on radio and television, and Nazan's interesting voice attracted attention. ''BirGün'' (''One Day'') is an Istanbul-based Turkish left-wing daily. The paper was founded in 2004 by a group of Turkish intellectuals. The most important point of the newspaper is that it is not owned by any parent company or conglomerate. Since its foundation, the newspaper had to face serious pressures from publishing trusts, mainly to affiliated with Doğan Media Group that owns the vast majority of the market. Whereas most of the newspapers in Turkey pay paper and publishing cost as installments, ''BirGün'' had to pay in cash. In order to afford the costs, the newspaper first launched a subscription campaign, then raised its price to 0.75 TL. The price was 1 TL in 2012 and 1,5 TL in Summer 2015 while also costs 40 kuruş (0,4 TL) on universities in Turkey.
