Cerro Romualdo
Cerro Romualdo is a mountain in San Luis Obispo County, California. The mountain is the fifth in a series of volcanic plugs called the Nine Sisters. Until 1964 the mountain was officially known as Romualdo Peak. The mountain is named for a Chumash man who received the Rancho Huerta de Romualdo Mexican land grant from Pío Pico, the last Mexican Governor of Alta California. ''Huerta de Romualdo'' means ''Romualdo's kitchen garden or orchard'' in Spanish. He sold the land to Captain John Wilson in 1846. In the 1890s, rock from Cerro Romualdo was used in the construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Bishop Peak (California)
Bishop Peak is a volcanic plug in San Luis Obispo, California. It is the tallest of the Morros or " Nine Sisters", a chain of similar peaks stretching to Morro Bay. Often said to take its name from its resemblance to a bishop's miter, it is named in homage to the town's name (San Luis Obispo). "Obispo" is the Spanish word for Bishop. Geology Like the other Morros, Bishop Peak is primarily composed of dacite. About 20 to 25 million years ago, magma welled up underneath a layer of softer rock and solidified. The softer overlying rock has since eroded away, leaving a distinct rugged shape. Wildlife Bishop Peak's thin, rocky soil supports many plants that are not common in the surrounding area. Alta California (, ), also known as Nueva California () among other names, was a province of New Spain formally established in 1804. Along with the Baja California peninsula, it had previously comprised the province of , but was made a separate province in 1804 (named ). Following the Mexican War of Independence, it became a territory of First Mexican Empire, Mexico in April 1822 and was renamed in 1824. Rancho Huerta De Romualdo
Rancho Huerta de Romualdo was a Mexican land grant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California given in 1842 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado and in 1846 by Governor Pío Pico to Romualdo. The name means Romualdo's vegetable garden. The grant between Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, extended along Chorro Creek and encompassed Cerro Romauldo. History The one-tenth square league to Romualdo, a Chumash Indian. In 1846 Romualdo sold his land to Captain John Wilson (1797–1861), owner of the adjacent Rancho El Chorro, Rancho San Luisito and Rancho Cañada de los Osos y Pecho y Islay.
