Cerro María Lionza Natural Monument
The Cerro María Lionza Natural Monument (), also Montaña de Sorte Natural Monument Is a protected area with the status of a natural monument that is formed by a mountainous massif from which the river Yaracuy, Chorro and Charay are born, which together with the rivers Gurabao, Buria, Turbio and others, from which the reservoir of The Majaguas. This Monument is located within the Tropical Humid Forest Life Zone in Yaracuy State in northern Venezuela. It is named after the indigenous goddess María Lionza. The Government of Rómulo Betancourt (1958-1963), declared monument this space on March 18, 1960. But it was only in 1993 when it published in the Official Gazette (No. 4525) the Ordering Plan and Regulation of Use of it. A natural monument is a natural or cultural feature of outstanding or unique value because of its inherent rarity, representative of aesthetic qualities, or cultural significance. They can be natural geological and geographical features such as waterfalls, cliffs, craters, fossil, sand dunes, rock forms, valleys and coral reefs. Locations important to faith groups may be considered natural monuments. Archeological and historical sites linked to the natural environment are also included, such as cave art. Yaracuy State
Yaracuy (, ;) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. Yaracuy is located in the Central-Western Region, Venezuela. It is bordered by Falcón in the north, in the west by Lara, in the south by Portuguesa and Cojedes and in the east by Cojedes and Carabobo. The geography of state is mountainous, the Andes range ends there, and the Coastal Range begins. It is split by two mountainous systems, the Sierra de Aroa on the North and the Sierra de Nirgua. María Lionza
María Lionza is the central figure in one of the most widespread new religious movements in Venezuela. The cult of María Lionza began in the 20th century as a blend of African, indigenous and Catholic beliefs. She is revered as a goddess of nature, love, peace and harmony. She has followers throughout Venezuelan society, from small rural villages to Caracas, where a monumental statue stands in her honor. The Cerro María Lionza Natural Monument (also known as Sorte mountain) where an important pilgrimage takes place every October, was renamed in her honour. María Lionza (statue)
''María Lionza'' is a large statue depicting the wikt:titular#Adjective, titular goddess, María Lionza, riding a tapir. The original is located on Cerro María Lionza Natural Monument, Sorte mountain in Yaracuy, said to be the goddess' home. A replica is located between lanes of the Francisco Fajardo Highway, Francisco Fajardo freeway next to the University City of Caracas, University City campus of the Central University of Venezuela, in Caracas. The original was created by Alejandro Colina in 1951 to sit outside the university's Olympic Stadium (Caracas), Olympic Stadium for that year's Bolivarian Games; it was moved to the highway in 1953 and, after several years in storage with the replica on display in its place, was illicitly relocated to Sorte in 2022. Nature is an inherent character or constitution, particularly of the ecosphere or the universe as a whole. In this general sense nature refers to the laws, elements and phenomena of the physical world, including life. Although humans are part of nature, human activity or humans as a whole are often described as at times at odds, or outright separate and even superior to nature. During the advent of modern scientific method in the last several centuries, nature became the passive reality, organized and moved by divine laws.
