Central Plains Region, Manitoba
The Central Plains Region () is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba located in the south central part of the Canadian province of Manitoba, directly west of Winnipeg. Its major urban centre is the City of Portage la Prairie. Together with the Pembina Valley Region to the south, the Central Plains Region composes the broader cultural region of Central Manitoba. Geographically, the region is considered to be a part of southern Manitoba, and is serviced by the Southern Regional Health Authority. As of the 2016 census, the region had a population of 50,300 (compared to 48,289 in the 2001 census). The Municipality of Glenella – Lansdowne is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History It was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RMs of Glenella and Lansdowne. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated these amalgamations in order for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. Haywood, Manitoba
Haywood is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Haywood is situated in the Rural Municipality of Grey, east of St. Claude, Manitoba, St. Claude and west of Elm Creek. The community includes a church, a hall, a cemetery, and many other public areas and services that most communities provide. Haywood, however, does not have a school, and therefore, students ride the bus to St. Claude, Manitoba, St. Claude, a neighbouring community to the west. Haywood was founded in 1907. The centennial anniversary was acknowledged in 2007. The event was celebrated by featuring a float parade, sponsored by a number Haywood and St. Claude businesses and families. Elm Creek, Manitoba
Elm Creek is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in Manitoba, Canada. It is about 50 km west of Winnipeg and about 35 km southeast of Portage la Prairie. It is located in the Rural Municipality of Grey. It is home to the second largest fire hydrant in the world which was unveiled on Canada Day, 2001. The fire hydrant was built out of a tank supplied by a volunteer firefighter and was also built by volunteer firefighters. It is also the home of the second largest H4 chondrite (a class of stony meteorite) ever found in Canada. The 8.2-kg mass was found by a local grader driver on a rural road in 1997. Springstein is a hamlet in the Canadian province of Manitoba, located in the Rural Municipality of Cartier, about 20 kilometres west of Winnipeg. It has been around at least since the 1930s.
