Cañas is a Cantons of Costa Rica, canton in the Guanacaste Province, Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. The head city is in Cañas District, Cañas district. History Cañas was created on 12 July 1878 by decree 22. Geography Cañas has an area of km² and a mean elevation of metres. The elongated canton touches the Tempisque River in the southwest. It keeps the Bebedero River and Tenorio River on its western boundary as it widens to encompass agricultural lowlands before climbing into the Cordillera de Guanacaste up to the Tenorio Volcano. Cantons Of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is administratively divided into provinces of Costa Rica, seven provinces which are subdivided into 84 canton (administrative division), cantons, and these are further subdivided into districts of Costa Rica, districts. Cantons are the only administrative division in Costa Rica that possess local government in the form of Municipality, municipalities. Each municipality has its own mayor and several representatives, all of them chosen via municipal elections every four years. The original 14 cantons were established in 1848, and the number has risen gradually by the division of existing cantons. Law no. 4366 of 19 August 1969, which outlines the creation of administrative divisions of Costa Rica, states that new cantons may only be created if they have at least one percent of the republic's total population, which was as of the latest estimate (2022). National Primary Route 1, formally known as (North Interamerican Road), is the northern segment of the Pan-American Highway (locally in Central America known as the Inter-American Highway) that traverses Costa Rica. Description The road begins in the (downtown, city center) districts of San José canton, just where Route 2 ends, at the east side of the La Sabana Metropolitan Park.
