The Tagaytay 'Tol Patriots (stylized as Tagaytay 'TOL Patriots), formerly the Cavite 'Tol Patriots, are a Filipino women's professional basketball team based in Tagaytay, Cavite. The team competes in the Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL), and is named after its owner, Senator Francis Tolentino. History The Cavite 'Tol Patriots was formed around 2024 as a representative team for Cavite in the newly formed Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL) and is owned by Senator Francis "Tol" Tolentino. Tolentino also sponsors the WMPBL itself along with Manny Pacquiao and the MPBL Partylist. The first try-outs for the 'Tol Patriots was held in November 2024 in Tagaytay led by coach Norman Manguinao and coach Angelica Valera of Cavite State University. Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL) is a women's professional basketball league in the Philippines consisting of fourteen teams. It serves as the women's counterpart of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). The league launched in November 2024 by boxing legend and former Senator Manny Pacquiao and is fourth league under the ''Maharlika Pilipinas'' name, following the men's MPBL, the Junior MPBL, and the volleyball counterpart Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA). It first began play as an amateur league in January 2025 with an invitational tournament before turning pro in April that year. Francis Ng Tolentino (, born January 2, 1960) is a Filipino politician and lawyer serving as a senator since 2019. He has been the Senate Majority Leader since 2024 and was formerly the chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee from 2022 to 2023. The WMPBL Invitational Tournament was a tournament that serves as the launch event of the Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL). The tournament featured fourteen teams and ran from January 19 to April 23, 2025. Background In October 2024, seven years after the founding of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, league founder Manny Pacquiao established the women's MPBL together with commissioner Haydee Ong. As preparation for the league's full launch in mid-2025, it will host an invitational tournament similar to its men's counterpart. 2025 WMPBL Season
The 2025 WMPBL season is the inaugural regular season of the Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League as a professional league. It follows the Invitational Tournament which was held from January to April 2025. The WMPBL season itself will commence on June 29, 2025. Pilipinas Aguilas, defending champions and an amateur team are not participating. Format The 2025 regular season will start with the elimination round where all six participating teams will figure in a double round robin. The top two teams will earn a bye to the semifinals.
