Ann Catley (1745–1789), also known as Ann Lascelles, was an English singer, actress, and prostitute. Personal life Catley was born near Tower Hill, London, to hackneyed coachman and a washer woman. Mr. Catley spent his earnings only on himself, often taking his wife's wages as well. Ann helped her mother as a laundress. At the age of ten, she became acquainted with Colonel Lascelles, known for his relation to the Prince of Wales. He found she could sing and she began performing for the neighborhood, at a young age, she was known for her angelic voice and looks, garnering multiple admirers. She first made her money singing in pubs and to the garrison of the Tower of London. It was not known if Ann lost her virginity to any of the “numerous corp admirers who daily laid siege to her” but it was “certain that she had scarcely entered her fourteenth year when she parted with her innocence” (Ambross, 8). Robert Adrian Catley (born 11 September 1947) is an English singer. He is the lead singer of the hard rock band Magnum and is also active as a solo artist. Biography Early years (1947–1972) Born in Aldershot on 11 September 1947, Catley's family moved to the Tile Cross area of Birmingham when he was young. He went on to attend the nearby Central Grammar School for Boys (Birmingham) and left to start an apprenticeship at the GPO before deciding on a musical career shortly after meeting similarly minded individuals at college. Whilst at college he joined several bands, such as The Smokestacks (Jeff Clark-guitar, Ron Savage-guitar, Derek Danks- bass & Brian Worrell- drums Life and Clearwater). Robert Catley (born 1 September 1942) is a former Australian Australian Labor Party, Labor politician. Catley was born in Wales and received a Bachelor of Science, B.Sc.(econ) (Hons) from the London School of Economics and a PhD from the Australian National University. Dame Christine McKelvie Cole Catley (née Bull; 19 December 1922 – 21 August 2011) was a New Zealand journalist, publisher and author. She co-founded the Parents Centre movement and influenced broadcasting policy in New Zealand. Career Christine McKelvie Bull was born in 1922 in Wellington, New Zealand. She grew up on a farm in Hunterville, Rangitikei and began writing while still at school, freelancing for the ''Taranaki Daily News''. She won a scholarship to the University of Canterbury and moved to Christchurch, where she also worked as a part-time reporter for ''The Press'' newspaper while studying. Glenn Catley (born 15 March 1972) is a British retired professional boxer and former WBC super-middleweight World Champion. Biography Catley was born in Frampton Cotterell, south Gloucestershire, England. Known as "Catman", he turned pro in 1993 as a Middleweight and Won 21 of his first 22 fights (including a victory over Kirkland Laing), and won the WBC International Middleweight Title against George Bocco. However, he then surprisingly lost this title to Hungarian Andras Galfi by TKO. Catley came back from this unexpected setback and won the British Middleweight Title with a KO over world rated Neville Brown. He then moved up to Super Middleweight and challenged WBC World Super Middleweight Title holder Richie Woodhall in 1998, but lost a majority decision in an all British battle. Gwen Catley
Gwendoline Florence Catley (9 February 190612 November 1996) was an English lyric coloratura soprano who sang in opera, concert and revues. She often sang on radio and television, and made numerous recordings of songs and arias, mostly in English. She was renowned for the clarity and agility of her voice particularly in florid parts, and her English diction was outstanding. Biography Catley was born in London in 1906. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music, where her chief singing teacher was the tenor Walter Hyde. Her other teachers included Sir Granville Bantock, Jenny Hyman and, privately, Julian Kimbell. The school's principal, Sir Landon Ronald, who had been Dame Nellie Melba's accompanist, said Catley reminded him of Melba. She won the Gold Medal but was prevented from accepting it by her father.
