Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.4 square miles (94.2 km), of which, 33.5 square miles (86.6 km) of it is land and 2.9 square miles (7.5 km) of it (8.00%) is water. Grant County is the most southwestern county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 51,938. Its county seat is Lancaster and its largest city is Platteville.
