Carrión (river)
The Carrión is a river in northern Spain. Its source is in the mountain range called Fuentes Carrionas, and it is a tributary of the river Pisuerga, into which it flows just upstream from Valladolid. The entire course of the river is within the province of Palencia, where in addition to the capital it flows through the towns of Guardo, Saldaña and Carrión de los Condes. Fuentes Carrionas
The massif of Fuentes Carrionas is a mountain range belonging to Spain's Cantabrian Mountains. The massif is in the north of the province of Palencia, and also falls within the boundaries of León (province), province of León and Cantabria. The range has seasonal snow cover and is the source of the river Carrión (river), Carrión. Its highest peak is Peña Prieta, with 2538 m. Pisuerga River
The Pisuerga is a river in northern Spain, the Duero's second largest tributary. It rises in the Cantabrian Mountains in the province of Palencia, autonomous region of Castile and León. Its traditional source is called Fuente Cobre, but it has been discovered that the real source is a glacier higher in the mountains. The river flows south into the Douro river shortly after passing through the city of Valladolid. Its length is approximately 270 kilometres (170 mi). Since the 1950s the water level of the river has been very regular throughout the year due to the huge Aguilar de Campoo dam which collects all the water from the river's rainy upper valleys. This regulation has allowed the creation of vast extensions of irrigated farmland along the Pisuerga's course across the northern Castilian plain. Valladolid ( ; ) is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality in Spain and the primary seat of government and ''de facto'' capital of the Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Castile and León. Guardo
Guardo is a town and municipality situated in the Montaña Palentina region in the far north of the province of Palencia, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. As of 2023, the municipality had 5653 residents, making it the third most populated settlement in the province. Saldaña, Palencia
Saldaña is a town and municipality in the province of Palencia in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain, and may be the town of "Eldana" mentioned by the historian Ptolemy as being conquered by the Roman Empire. Geographically, the town is situated on the banks of the River Carrión. The town's connection to the Roman Era is reflected in the beautiful remains of a villa attributed to the emperor Theodosius I. Carrión De Los Condes
Carrión de los Condes () is a municipality in the province of Palencia, part of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León, Spain. Situated on the River Carrión, it is 40 kilometers upstream from the provincial capital of Palencia, on the French Way of the Way of Saint James. History Carrión de los Condes was taken from the Moors by Alonso Carreño around 791–842. Don Carreño took the name Carrión at this time. Carrión de los Condes was the home of Diego and Fernán González, fictitious sons-in-law of El Cid in the poem '' El Cantar de Mio Cid'' (English: The Song of My Cid).
