Carmen Maldonado González
Carmen Irene Maldonado González is a Puerto Rican politician and mayor of Morovis, Puerto Rico. Maldonado is affiliated with the Popular Democratic Party (in ), has been serving as mayor since 2017 and was reelected again in 2020. As of 2019, she is the vice-president of her party. Initiatives and career In early 2019, Maldonado pushed an initiative to promote the agriculture of Morovis, along with forty farmers from Morovis, so that the products may be marked and marketed as "Made in Morovis". Maldonado voted against governor Ricardo Rosselló's proposal to change Municipalities of Puerto Rico, (administrative divisions) to "counties" of Puerto Rico, as they are called in the United States. Puerto Rico was established by Spain and until now has the administrative divisions that closely resemble the Spanish ways. Morovis (, ) is a Morovis barrio-pueblo, town and Municipalities of Puerto Rico, municipality of Puerto Rico located in the central region of the island, north of Orocovis, south of Manatí, Vega Baja and Vega Alta; east of Ciales, and west of Corozal, Puerto Rico, Corozal. San Lorenzo is a barrio in the municipality of Morovis, Puerto Rico. San Lorenzo has six sectors and its population in 2010 was 1,209. History San Lorenzo was in Spain's gazetteers until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of San Lorenzo barrio was 884. Clandestine car races took place in San Lorenzo for many years until an accident on July 18, 1998, claimed the lives of five people.
