Carmelo Filardi
Carmelo Filardi (1900–1989) was a Puerto Rican artist of Italian ancestry, was a cartoonists who had his work published in Puerto Rico's newspaper starting in 1927. He was from Yauco, Puerto Rico and his parents were born in Italy. Filardi specialized in satire and journalistic criticism. To do this, he used depictions of average daily life in Puerto Rico to illustrate his thoughts. He was a caricaturist and his work is included in University of Puerto Rico collections. His first published cartoon in ''El Mundo'' was in 1927. In 1947, he published a book called ''Un año de historia en caricaturas'', which contained a selection of his works from 1946 to 1947. In 1971, he published a book called . The book contained a collection of his works from 1948-1963. Eliseo Combas Guerra, wrote the prologue, selected the cartoons and annotated the work for the book, which was published by Editorial Universitaria of the University of Puerto Rico. Yauco, Puerto Rico
Yauco () is a town and municipality in southern Puerto Rico. Although the downtown is inland, the municipality stretches to a southern coast facing the Caribbean Sea. Yauco is located south of Maricao, Lares and Adjuntas; east of Sabana Grande and Guánica; and west of Guayanilla. The municipality consists of 20 barrios and Yauco Pueblo (the downtown and administrative center of the municipality). It is both a principal town of the Yauco Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Ponce-Yauco-Coamo Combined Statistical Area. It was founded by Fernando Pacheco on February 29, 1756, and developed for commodity crops of tobacco, sugar cane, and coffee. El Mundo (Puerto Rico)
''El Mundo'' () was "an anti-'' Popular'', conservative broadsheet" Puerto Rican newspaper founded in 1919 by Romualdo Real. Its slogan was "Verdad y Justicia" (Truth and Justice). In 1929, former corrector-turned-administrator Angel Ramos and journalist José Coll Vidal, bought the newspaper when Real retired. In 1946 Ramos was the sole owner of the newspaper. Acquisitions ''El Mundo'' acquired WKAQ AM, the oldest radio station on the island, and later added WKAQ-TV channel 2. ''El Mundo'' also established WKAQ-FM, but it is unknown if the current station at 104.7 MHz was part of the operation in the Ramos days. José Vicente Ferrer de Otero y Cintrón (January 8, 1912 – January 26, 1992) was a Puerto Rican actor and director of stage, film and television. He was one of the most celebrated and esteemed Hispanic American actors during his lifetime, with a career spanning nearly 60 years between 1935 and 1992. Filardi House
The Filardi House ( es, Casa Filardi), also known as Casa Muñoz ( en, Muñoz House), is a historic house with ground-level commercial space in Yauco, Puerto Rico. It is notable for the extensive use of concrete sculptural ornamentation on its facade. Italian immigrant Vicente Filardi, a contractor with business in Ponce and Yauco, designed and built the house in 1916 with his sons Juan Bautista and Domingo. The younger Filardis were responsible for the integration of the elaborate decorative features with the overall Beaux-Arts plan, and later came to be recognized as experts in production of ornamental elements of cast concrete. Alex Llompart (Alexander Gabriel Llompart Filardi) (born May 5, 1990) is a professional male tennis player from Puerto Rico. Llompart reached his highest individual ranking on the ATP Tour on December 23, 2013, when he became World number 725. He reached his highest doubles ranking on July 21, 2014, when he became World number 232.
