Carlow Town GAA
Carlow Town Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Carlow, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of hurling. History Hurling has been played in Carlow since the 19th century, with several clubs representing the town and enjoying success at various intervals. One of these clubs, the Pearses, won Carlow SHC titles in 1961 and 1963 before later disbanding. In 1968, a new club was reformed under the name Carlow Town Hurling Club. The new club had success in the juvenile and underage grades, winning the Carlow U16HC title in 1974, the Carlow MHC title in 1975 and Carlow U21HC titles in 1976 and 1977. Carlow Town claimed their first Carlow SHC title after a defeat of St Finan's in 1977. Further SHC titles were claimed in 1979, 1980 and 1988. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sports, amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, and GAA rounders. Carlow ( ; ) is the county town of County Carlow, in the south-east of Republic of Ireland, Ireland, from Dublin. At the 2022 census of Ireland, 2022 census, it had a population of 27,351, the List of urban areas in the Republic of Ireland, twelfth-largest urban center in Ireland. Hurling (, ') is an outdoor Team sport, team game of ancient Gaelic culture, Gaelic Irish origin, played by men and women. Carlow Senior Hurling Championship
The Carlow Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Carlow GAA clubs. St Mullin's are the title holders, having defeating Mount Leinster Rangers in the 2024 Final. History Since 1927, with the exception of the 'foot and mouth' year of 1941, a 'Premier' Carlow Hurling Championship has been completed. Carlow's premier hurling championship was first awarded senior status in 1960, as the county team had won promotion to Division 1 of the N.H.L. following back-to-back Division 2 title wins. St Mullin's are the Carlow kingpins, with their 29 titles including pre-1960 titles that were won in Carlow's premier hurling competition in those days. Carlow Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Carlow Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the JJ Kavanagh Intermediate Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Carlow IHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Carlow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1984 for the second tier hurling teams in the county of Carlow in Ireland. In its current format, the Carlow Intermediate Championship begins with a group stage in mid-summer. The five participating club teams play each other in a round-robin system. The four top-ranking teams proceed to the knockout phase that culminates with the final match at Netwatch Cullen Park. The winner of the Carlow Intermediate Championship qualifies for the subsequent Leinster Club Championship. John Doyle (Carlow Hurler)
John Doyle (born 1992 in Carlow, Ireland) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with O Loughlin Gaels and has been a member of the Carlow senior inter-county team since 2011. Playing career Club Doyle currently plays his hurling in Kilkenny with O Loughlin gaels. However, Doyle started playing his club hurling with Carlow Town. After coming to prominence at underage levels he made his senior club championship debut as a fringe player in 2008. He has since become a key member of the team's full-forward line. However, in 2011 he decided to switch clubs to O loughlin Gaels in Kilkenny. Inter-county Doyle first played for Carlow at inter-county level as a member of the county's minor hurling team in 2009. Ruairí Dunbar (born 1987) is an Irish people, Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with the Carlow GAA, Carlow senior inter-county hurling team. He won Christy Ring Cup titles with Carlow GAA, Carlow in 2008 and 2009. Unnamed sources have claimed that Ruairí has been offered the managers role for Clare hurling. Pierce Freaney
Pierce J. Freaney (born 1943) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Rower-Inistioge, Carlow Town and St Finbarr's and at inter-county level with Kilkenny and Carlow. Playing career Freaney first played hurling as a student at St Kieran's College in Kilkenny. He won a Croke Cup title in 1959, before captaining the team to All-Ireland final defeat by the North Monastery two years later. Freaney's performances for the college resulted in a call-up to the Kilkenny minor hurling team. His two years in the grade yielded consecutive All-Ireland MHC medals in 1960 and 1961. Freaney immediately progressed to Kilkenny's intermediate team in 1962, while he also lined out for the senior team in some tournament games. He transferred to the Carlow Town club in 1963 and won a Carlow SHC medal in his first season. Freaney also played for the Carlow senior hurling team in the Leinster SHC.
