Carlotta Ferlito
Carlotta Ferlito (born 15 February 1995) is an Italian artistic gymnast. Since starting her senior career in 2011, Ferlito has won two medals at the European Championships and represented her country at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the first Italian gymnast to compete the "Mustafina" on floor (triple turn with the leg held up in split, Difficulty E). Personal life Ferlito was born on 15 February 1995 in Catania, Sicily, to Roberta Parasilti and Massimo Ferlito. She has an older brother, Gianpaolo, and an older sister, Ludovica. Gymnastics career She began gymnastics when she was six years old. In 2007, she moved to Lissone, near Milan, to train at GAL Lissone. Artistic gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses. Floor (gymnastics)
In gymnastics, the floor is a specially prepared exercise surface, which is considered an apparatus. It is used by both male and female gymnasts. The gymnastics event performed on the floor is called floor exercise. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is FX. A spring floor is used in all of gymnastics to provide more bounce, and also help prevent potential injuries to lower extremity joints of gymnasts due to the nature of the apparatus, which includes the repeated pounding required to train it. Cheerleading also uses spring floors for practice. The sprung floor used for indoor athletics, however, is designed to reduce bounce. Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The balance beam is only performed competitively by female gymnasts. Beams are usually covered with leather-like material and are only four inches wide. The vault is an artistic gymnastics apparatus which gymnasts perform on, as well as the skill performed using that apparatus. Vaulting is also the action of performing a vault. Both male and female gymnasts perform the vault. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is VT. The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, or World School Sport Games, or ISF World School Sport Games is an international multi-sport event which is organised by the International School Sport Federation (ISF). It is the largest event among many other sport events held by the ISF. Aligned with the philosophy of the organisation, only individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to compete.
