Carlos Véliz (shot Putter)
Carlos Véliz (born 12 August 1987 in Holguín) is a male shot putter from Cuba. His personal best throw is 21.40 metres, achieved on 12 June 2011 in Brazzaville. However the mark had to be declared irregular because of the use of a light implement. Career * 2006 Véliz's international career began with the World Junior Championships in Beijing, where he finished in a respectable 6th Place. *2007 Véliz competed at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, throwing 19.75m for the bronze medal. *2008 Véliz improved his personal best significantly on 13 May in Havana, with a throw of 20.72m. Also in Havana, he took the Central American and Caribbean Championships Shot Put title, with a throw of 20.10m. These throws ensured his qualification for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Holguín
Holguín (, ) is a municipality-city in Cuba. After Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and Camagüey, it is the List of cities in Cuba, fourth largest city in Cuba. The Ibero-American Championships in Athletics (Spanish: ''Campeonato Iberoamericano de Atletismo'') is a biennial athletics competition for athletes representing Ibero-American countries as well as a number of other Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. The competition is organised by the Asociación Iberoamericana de Atletismo (''Ibero-American Athletics Association''). Athletics at the 2008 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the games, from August 15 to August 24, 2008, at the Beijing National Stadium. The Olympic sport of athletics is split into four distinct sets of events: track and field events, road running events, and racewalking events. Both men and women had very similar schedules of events. Men competed in 24 events and women in 23, as their schedule lacked the 50 km race walk. In addition, both the men's 110 m hurdles and decathlon are reflected in the women's schedule by the 100 m hurdles and heptathlon, respectively. The Olympic record was broken in 17 returning events. In five events, including the inaugural women's 3000 m steeplechase, the world record was broken.
