Carlos Barrera e Sánchez (3 December 1950 – 7 April 2022) was a Spanish Aranese politician. Aranese Democratic Convergence (Aranese: ''Convergéncia Democratica Aranesa'', formerly ''Convergéncia Democratica Aranesa - Partit Nacionalista Aranés'') is a political party in Val d'Aran that formed the Aranese section of CDC. The Síndic d'Aran (Occitan language, Occitan for 'Aran Syndic') is the head of government of the Val d'Aran, an autonomously governed region within the Province of Lleida of Catalonia, Spain. The Síndic leads the thirteen-member Conselh Generau d'Aran, the governing body of the region. The office of Síndic d'Aran and the larger autonomous government were created in June 1991. The Síndic d'Aran is elected by the members of the Conselh Generau d'Aran. To be elected as Síndic, a candidate must win either an absolute majority in the first vote or a simple majority in the second round. Successful candidates serve a four-year term in office. Amparo Serrano Iglesias (born ?) is a Spanish Aranese politician who served as the second Síndic d'Aran, the head of government of the autonomous Val d'Aran, from July 1993 until June 1995. She was also the second woman to hold the office of Síndic d'Aran after her predecessor, Maria Pilar Busquets. Biography In 1991, Serrano was elected to the Conselh Generau d'Aran, the governing legislature of the Val d'Aran, as a candidate from the Aranese Democratic Union (UDA) and the larger Aranese–Convergence and Unione electoral alliance. Her colleague, Maria Pilar Busquets of the Aranese Democratic Convergence (which was also a member of the coalition at the time), was elected the first Síndic d'Aran. However, two years later, disagreements arose in their coalition.
