Carla Zambelli
Carla Zambelli Salgado de Oliveira (born 3 July 1980) is a Italo-Brazilian right-wing activist and politician. Founder of the movement On the Streets, Zambelli gained notoriety through her activism in favor of the impeachment of the ex-president Dilma Rousseff. In the elections of 2018, she was elected federal deputy for São Paulo, by the Social Liberal Party (PSL). On January 30, 2025, the São Paulo Regional Electoral Court (TRE-SP) revoked Congresswoman Carla Zambelli's mandate on the basis of political abuse and misuse of media by spreading false information about the 2022 election and for the crimes of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal coercion when, in an episode in 2022, armed, she chased a citizen on the street in Jardins, São Paulo. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Daniel Lucio da Silveira (born 25 November 1982) is a former Rio de Janeiro Military Police officer and Brazilian politician, previously affiliated with the PSL, UNIÃO, and PTB parties. He was a federal deputy for the state of Rio de Janeiro from 2019 to 2023. Corruption in Brazil exists on all levels of society from the top echelons of political power to the smallest municipalities. Operation Car Wash showed central government members using the prerogatives of their public office for rent-seeking activities, ranging from political support to siphoning funds from state-owned corporation for personal gain. The Mensalão scandal for example used taxpayer funds to pay monthly allowances to members of congress from other political parties in return for their support and votes in congress.
