Carl McClellan Hill
Carl McClellan Hill (July 27, 1907, Norfolk, Virginia – April 4, 1995, Hampton, Virginia) was an American educator and academic administrator who served as president of Kentucky State University from 1962 to 1975, and as the 11th president of Hampton University from 1976 to 1978. Early life Carl McClellan Hill was born July 27, 1907, in Norfolk, Virginia, to William Franklin and Sarah Rowe Hill. Education Hill attended Norfolk public schools. He earned a B.Sc. degree in organic chemistry from Hampton Institute in 1931. During the 1930s, Hill taught science at the George P. Phenix Laboratory School, a high school associated with the Hampton Institute. After working briefly as an assistant professor of chemistry at Hampton Institute (1939–1940), Hill returned to the high school as principal (1940–1941). Hampton University
Hampton University is a private, historically black, research university in Hampton, Virginia, United States. Founded in 1868 as Hampton Agricultural and Industrial School, it was established by Black and White leaders of the American Missionary Association after the American Civil War to provide education to freedmen. The campus houses the Hampton University Museum, which is the oldest museum of the African diaspora in the United States and the oldest museum in the commonwealth of Virginia.
