Byford is a suburb on the south-eastern edge of Perth, Western Australia, within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. The town has its origins in a township that was gazetted under the name "Beenup" in 1906. In 1920, the name of the township was changed to Byford. Toponym The original name of Byford was 'Beenup'. "Beenup", a corruption of the Aboriginal Australians, Aboriginal name associated with nearby Beenyup Brook, was the spelling that had been applied to a railway siding there. Mundijong is an outer suburb of the Western Australian capital city of Perth. Originally named Jarrahdale Junction, it was at the junction of the Jarrahdale to Rockingham railway line and the government railway line from Perth to Bunbury, which was built in 1893. Whitby is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located near the South Western Highway in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. It is named after the nearby Whitby Falls, with the name approved for the locality in November 1988. Whitby Falls had previously been called in Noongar as Mundajill, but was renamed by settler Henry Mead in 1848, who bought property in the area for farming as the Whitby Falls estate.
