Carbona, California
Carbona is an unincorporated community in San Joaquin County, California, United States. Carbona is located on West Linne Road, south southeast of Tracy. Carbona's post office is Tracy but has its own ZIP code 95304. History Carbona was originally a railroad station built at the junction with the Alameda and San Joaquin Railroad spur line to the Tesla coal mines in Corral Hollow. The spur line was closed in 1916, by the Western Pacific Railroad following a flood in 1911 when the railroad line, coal other facilities were destroyed and the towns of Carnegie and Tesla were abandoned. A junction, in the context of rail transport, is a place at which two or more rail routes converge or diverge. Oakland Subdivision
The Oakland Subdivision is a Union Pacific Railroad line in the U.S. state of California. It extends from Stockton in the east to Oakland, crossing the Diablo Range at Altamont Pass and traversing Niles Canyon. The line was originally built by the Western Pacific Railroad as the final Pacific leg of their Feather River Route — it was acquired by Union Pacific upon their purchase of Southern Pacific. For its length, the line largely parallels the route of the First transcontinental railroad, the Western Pacific Railroad (1862–1870), though the Subdivision was laid out decades after the Western Pacific. Carnegie, California
Carnegie was a town in Corral Hollow, in San Joaquin County, California from 1902 to about 1915. It was discovered that the San Francisco & San Joaquin Coal Company's Tesla coal mines in Corral Hollow contained a rich deposit of clay. Fueled by California's rapid population growth and the subsequent demand for building materials, mine owners James and John Treadwell of the Treadwell gold mine formed the Carnegie Brick and Pottery Company in 1902. The Treadwells named the company after philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. In 1904 the plant to make brick and architectural terra cotta was built near the Alameda and San Joaquin Railroad line, four miles east of the coal mining town of Tesla. A town was in place with over 300 inhabitants (mainly Italian artisans) and the town's brick factory was producing upwards of 100,000 bricks per day. Western Pacific Railroad
The Western Pacific Railroad was a Class I railroad in the United States. It was formed in 1903 as an attempt to break the near-monopoly the Southern Pacific Railroad had on rail service into northern California. Corral Hollow
Corral Hollow, formed by Corral Hollow Creek, is a canyon partially located in Alameda County, with parts in San Joaquin County, southwest of Tracy, California. Corral Hollow Creek, formerly El Arroyo de los Buenos Ayres (The Creek of the Good Winds), from its source north of Mount Boardman, flows north 1.89 miles where it turns to flow west-northwest then turns abruptly east in the vicinity of Tesla to flow east where it turns again in a northeasterly direction for to the Delta-Mendota Canal in the San Joaquin Valley. It was occupied by Native Americans prior to European contact, and is within both Yokuts and Ohlone ancestral homelands.
