Caprock, New Mexico
Caprock is an unincorporated community in Lea County, New Mexico, United States. Caprock is located on a geological formation in the high plains, approximately 47 miles east of Roswell. It was founded by Edward Crossland, who planted the cottonwoods in the area, in 1913. A post office was established in 1916 but is closed. Caprock's school closed in 1927. Lea County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, its population was 64,727. Its county seat is Lovington. It is both west and north of the Texas state line. Lea County comprises the Hobbs, NM micropolitan statistical area. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which are land and (0.07%) are covered by water. Lea County is located in the southeast corner of New Mexico and borders Texas to the south and east. Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell () is a city in, and the seat of, Chaves County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. Chaves County forms the entirety of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 48,422, making it the fifth-largest city in New Mexico. It is home of the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891. The city is also the location of an Eastern New Mexico University campus. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located a few miles northeast of the city on the Pecos River. Bottomless Lakes State Park is located east of Roswell on US 380. The Roswell incident was named after the town, though the crash site of the alleged UFO was some from Roswell and closer to Corona. The investigation and debris recovery was handled by the local Roswell Army Air Field. On the 50th anniversary of the Roswell UFO incident the UFO Festival was started. KOBR-TV Tower (also called KSWS-TV Tower) is a 490.7 meter (1,610 ft) high guy-wired aerial mast supporting the transmission antenna of television station KOBR in Caprock, New Mexico, United States.
