Capital Department, Tucumán
Capital Department is a department located in the center-north of the Tucumán Province, Argentina. At the 2001 census, its population was 527,607 and its population density was 5,862/km2. The city of San Miguel de Tucumán covers almost all 90 km2 of the department’s area. It is the smallest department in area, but the most populated as well. Geography The entire department lies on a plain presenting a gentle slope heading toward the Salí River located at the east end. Tucumán Province
Tucumán () is the most densely populated, and the second-smallest by land area, of the provinces of Argentina. Located in the northwest of the country, the province has the capital of San Miguel de Tucumán, often shortened to Tucumán. Neighboring provinces are, clockwise from the north: Salta Province, Salta, Santiago del Estero Province, Santiago del Estero and Catamarca Province, Catamarca. Salí River
The Salí River () is a large river in north-west Argentina. It is the most important river in Tucumán Province; most cities and towns in the province, including its capital, San Miguel de Tucumán, lay on its basin. The Salí is fed by precipitation captured in the Calchaquíes range next to Salta Province, and its flow is increased by the numerous streams from the ''Sierra del Aconquija'' range, and other rivers. Tafí Viejo Department
The department of Tafí Viejo is a department of the province of Tucumán (Argentina), created in 1907 by the reform of the provincial constitution, which divided the old department Tafí. Its head is the homonymous city. Bordered on the north by the department Trancas, east to Burruyacú and Cruz Alta, south of Capital, Yerba Buena and Lules, and west to Tafí del Valle. History The lands of the department, had been given, in colonial times, to encomendero Melian Leguizamón y Guevara. In 1781, land purchase cited the name of ''Tafí Viejo'' by Catalina de Aráoz de Facundo Tejerina y Barrera a Juan Clemente Méndez y José Martín Méndez. In 2001 its population was 162,240 (2nd in the province) largely located in the Banda del Río Salí- Alderetes Area (northwest). The Department seat is the city of Banda del Río Salí.
