Cankili I
Cankili I () (died 1565), also known as Segarasasekaram (Jaga Rajasekharam), is the most remembered Jaffna kingdom king in the Sri Lankan Tamil history. He was active in resisting Portuguese colonial inroads into Sri Lanka. He inherited his throne via palace intrigues in which a number of heirs died under mysterious circumstances. Ultimately, he was removed from power by a local uprising that led to his son Puviraja Pandaram taking nominal power from him. Biography His father, Singai Pararasasegaram, had two principal wives and a number of concubines. His first wife, Rajalaksmi, had two sons, Singhabahu and Pandaram. Singai Pararasasegaram second wife was Valliammal; they couple were the parents of Paranirupasingham. Cankili's mother had Cankili and a daughter named ''Paravai''. Sri Lankan Tamil People
Sri Lankan Tamils ( or ), also known as Ceylon Tamils or Eelam Tamils, are Tamils native to the South Asian island state of Sri Lanka. Today, they constitute a majority in the Northern Province, form the plurality in the Eastern Province and are in the minority throughout the rest of the country. 70% of Sri Lankan Tamils in Sri Lanka live in the Northern and Eastern provinces. Yalpana Vaipava Malai
The ''Yalpana Vaipava Malai'' ( ; ''The History of the Kingdom of Jaffna'' in English) is an historical and mythical account on the early and medieval Jaffna and Ceylon island, originally written in Tamil by the poet Mayil Vaakanaar () in 1736, under the request and patronage of Jan Maccara, the then Dutch Governor of Jaffna. It was translated to English by C. Brito, and was first published in 1879. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, this work was looked upon as one of great authority among the Tamils of Jaffna. It is still looked upon as an essential and precious source on Sri Lankan history, particularly esteemed among the Jaffneses and Sri Lankan Tamil historians. Pearl
A pearl is a hard, glistening object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle (mollusc), mantle) of a living Exoskeleton, shelled mollusk or another animal, such as fossil conulariids. Mannar, Sri Lanka
Mannar (, ; , , formerly spelled Manar) is the main town of Mannar District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. It is governed by an Urban Council. The town is located on Mannar Island overlooking the Gulf of Mannar and is home to the historic Ketheeswaram temple. In the Tamil language, Mannar means the ''raised place f sand' which is thought to have come from the geology of Mannar Island which was formed by the accumulation of sand.
