Canadian Valley Technology Center
Technology Centers, in Oklahoma, are Career and Technical schools which provide career and technology education for high school students in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The students generally spend part of each day in their respective schools pursuing academic subjects in addition to attending classes in their affiliated vo-tech center. A vocational-technical school, often called a vo-tech school, is a high school in the United States and Canada designed to bring vocational and technical training to its students. Proponents claim that students bound for college may be able to use such skills to realize a distinct educational advantage over other students in their major. The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education (ODCTE, commonly known and branded as CareerTech) is an agency of the state of Oklahoma located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. CareerTech oversees a statewide system of Career and technical education, career and technology education. The system comprises 29 technology center districts and 395 comprehensive school districts. CareerTech also has skills centers that serve state correctional facilities and juvenile detention facilities. The State Board of Career and Technology Education is the governing body of the department, composed of the Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction and eight members appointed by the Governor of Oklahoma with the approval of the Oklahoma Senate. The board appoints the director of career and technology education, who serves as the chief executive officer of the department and serves as a nonvoting member of the state board. This is a list of the 509 public school districts in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Of those, 415 are independent school districts that offer first grade through 12th grade classes. There are 94 elementary school districts which serve students at lower grade levels; most offer first grade through eighth grade classes, while a few only offer classes through the sixth grade. There were 697,358 students as of October 2024, 17% of the population. Elementary school districts were previously called "dependent school districts".
