Canada–Russia Relations
Canada and Russia have longstanding bilateral relations (previously between Canada–Soviet Union relations, Canada and the Soviet Union). As vast northern countries, Canada and Russia share some interests and cooperative policies. However, the open and democratic political system of Canada contrasts with the closed Russian system, as was the case during the communist era of the Soviet Union (USSR). Under the Presidency of Vladimir Putin, the Canadian government has routinely criticized the erosion of Russian democracy, persistent human rights abuses, and hostile foreign policy towards Canada and its NATO allies. In 2014, relations significantly deteriorated as a result of the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, Russian annexation of Crimea and Russian involvement in the War in Donbas. Embassy Of Canada In Moscow
The Embassy of Canada to Russia in Moscow is the List of diplomatic missions of Canada, diplomatic mission of Canada to Russia. Included in its mandate are the countries of Armenia and Uzbekistan. It also provides visa services to residents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. As of June 2018, to service such a vast area, the mission was staffed with 30 Canadian diplomats who were supported by 70 locally engaged personnel and a fleet of 8 vehicles. From Moscow, Canada also supports honorary consulates in Vladivostok, Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and Yerevan (Armenia). A consulate general in St. Petersburg was closed in March 2007. The Russian Revolution was a period of political and social change in Russia, starting in 1917. This period saw Russia abolish its monarchy and adopt a socialist form of government following two successive revolutions and a civil war. It can be seen as the precursor for other revolutions that occurred in the aftermath of World War I, such as the German Revolution of 1918–1919. Stephen Harper
Stephen Joseph Harper (born April 30, 1959) is a Canadian politician who served as the 22nd prime minister of Canada from 2006 to 2015.
