The Canada men's national artistic gymnastics team represents Canada in International Federation of Gymnastics, FIG international competitions. History Canada has participated in the Artistic gymnastics at the Summer Olympics, Olympic Games women's team competition 5 times, finishing as high as seventh place in Gymnastics at the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984. The team has also made 3 appearances at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, finishing as high as tenth place. Gymnastics Canada is the national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada and has its current headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. It is responsible for the organization and promotion of gymnastics on a nationwide basis. In 1956, a Canadian delegation attended its first world-level International Gymnastics Federation FIG (Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique) competition in Melbourne with only one male gymnast, Ed Gagnier, and one female gymnast, Ernestine Russell. This marked the beginning of Canada's participation in international competitions, signalling an important step towards development of their national team program. Gymnastics At The 1984 Summer Olympics
At the 1984 Summer Olympics, two different gymnastics disciplines were contested. In addition to the fourteen artistic gymnastics events contested, for the first time at the Olympics, a rhythmic gymnastics event was contested–the women's individual all-around. All of the gymnastics events were held at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles from July 29 through August 11. Several teams who had qualified to compete were absent as a result of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott, including the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, and North Korea. This was the first time in Olympic competition that eight gymnasts were allowed to move onto an apparatus final, instead of the previous six. William Émard (born 17 March 2000) is a Canadian artistic gymnast. At the 2021 World Championships, he finished eighth in the all-around final, marking the best result for a Canadian male gymnast in World Championship history. Additionally, he won gold in the vault event of the Mersin event in the 2021 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series. Senior career 2018 Émard joined the senior Canadian national team in 2018. However, his early career was met with adversity in injury form. Félix Dolci (born 5 May 2002) is a Canadian male artistic gymnast. He is the 2019 Junior World Champion on rings. He has been a member of the Canadian national team since 2017. Early life Dolci was born in Saint-Eustache, Québec in 2002. He started gymnastics at the age of 6 at Laval Excellence, a gym in Laval, Québec. His first competition was in 2009 and, up to this day, has won over 200 medals and awards, including sports merits and other honors. His mother suggested he try gymnastics, mainly as a way to release his energy, as sports such as hockey and soccer failed to adequately do that. Dolci speaks both French and English as he resides in the province of Québec. Dolci is coached by Adrian Balan. René Cournoyer (born April 23, 1997) is a Canadian artistic gymnast, who has competed internationally since 2014. Career At the 2014 Pan American Youth Gymnastics Championships, Cournoyer qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. At the games, Cournoyer finished in 19th in the all-around, 6th in the vault and 7th in the horizontal bar. Cournoyer was named to his first senior national team for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Cournoyer was part of the silver medal winning team, along with three fourth place finishes in the individual finals (rings, vault and parallel bars).
