The Town of Campo is a Statutory Town located in Baca County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 103 at the 2020 United States Census. The town is situated on the High Plains, straddling U.S. Route 287/385. History Campo is a name derived from a Spanish word meaning "field". A post office called Campo was established in 1913, and the town grew around it. Geography Campo is located just north of the Oklahoma border in southern Baca County at . Via U.S. Route 287/385 it is north to Springfield, the county seat, and south to Boise City, Oklahoma. At the 2020 United States Census, the town had a total area of , all of it land. Comanche National Grassland
Comanche National Grassland is a National Grassland located in southeastern Colorado, United States. It is the sister grassland of Cimarron National Grassland and contains both prairie grasslands and canyons. It is separated into two sections, each operated by a local ranger district, one of which is in Springfield and the other of which is in La Junta. The grassland is administered by the Forest Service together with the Pike and San Isabel National Forests, and the Cimarron National Grassland, from common headquarters located in Pueblo, Colorado. Picture Canyon (Colorado)
Picture Canyon, located in the Comanche National Grassland in southeastern Colorado, was named for its prehistoric rock art. There is evidence of prehistoric inhabitation of sites in Picture Canyon by Paleo-Indian, Archaic and Post-Archaic cultures, from about 12,000 years ago to 400 years ago. Boise City ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Cimarron County, in the Panhandle of Oklahoma, United States. Springfield, Colorado
Springfield is a Statutory Town which is also the county seat and most populous town in Baca County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. History The town was named after Springfield, Missouri. Frank and Jim Tipton settled in Las Animas, Colorado in 1886. In 1888 or 1889, Jim and Frank secured the title to 80 acres which was the original townsite. They did this using a "soldiers script" and named the town after Springfield, Mo, since this is where the Tipton brothers had come from. The United States census of 2020 was the twenty-fourth decennial United States census. Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2020.
