Campbell Newman
Campbell Kevin Thomas Newman (born 12 August 1963) is an Australian former politician who served as the 38th Premier of Queensland from 26 March 2012 to 14 February 2015. He served as the member for Ashgrove in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland between 24 March 2012 and 31 January 2015. He was LNP Leader from 2 April 2011 to 7 February 2015; Newman previously served as the 15th Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 27 March 2004 to 3 April 2011. Newman was elected to the lord mayorship as a member of the Liberal Party. He became a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) following the July 2008 merger of the Queensland Liberals and the Nationals. In March 2011, Newman announced that he would challenge opposition leader John-Paul Langbroek for the leadership of the LNP. Langbroek resigned, and Newman was elected his successor. Kevin Newman (politician)
Kevin Eugene Newman (10 October 193317 July 1999) was an Australian soldier and politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party and held ministerial office in the Fraser government, serving as Minister for Repatriation (1975–1976), Environment, Housing and Community Development (1976–1977), National Development (1977–1979), Productivity (1979–1980), and Administrative Services (1980–1983). He represented the Tasmanian seat of Bass in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1984. His wife Jocelyn also became a federal government minister, while his son Campbell became premier of Queensland. The 2004 Brisbane City Council election was held on 27 March 2004 to elect a lord mayor and 26 councillors to the City of Brisbane. The election was held as part of the statewide local government elections in Queensland, Australia. The election resulted in the election of Campbell Newman of the Liberal Party as Lord Mayor, defeating the Labor Party incumbent, Tim Quinn, by 2.5% of the mayoral two-party-preferred vote. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane is the chief executive of the City of Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, and the head of the Brisbane City Council. Kate Jones
Kate Jennifer Jones (born 10 April 1979) is an Australian former politician. She served as a Labor Party Member of Parliament in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2006 to 2012, and again from 2015 to 2020. Jones first represented the seat of Ashgrove until she was defeated by eventual Premier Campbell Newman at the 2012 state election. Jones retook the seat for the Labor Party at the 2015 state election. The seat was abolished prior to the 2017 state election, so Jones contested and won the new seat of Cooper at that election. Electoral District Of Ashgrove
Ashgrove was a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral district in the state of Queensland, Australia from 1960 to 2017. It was located in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, encompassing Alderley, Ashgrove, Enoggera, The Gap and Newmarket. The electorate also contained the Enoggera Army Barracks and the Enoggera Reservoir, a state forest. In the 2012 state election LNP leader Campbell Newman won the seat, and following his party's success in that election became Premier. In the 2015 election, Kate Jones, who had held the seat for Labor from 2006 to 2012, reclaimed the seat. In losing his seat and the Premiership, Newman became just the second Premier in Queensland history to be defeated in his electorate. Australian Defence Medal
The Australian Defence Medal is an Australian military decoration which recognises current and former Australian Defence Force personnel who completed an initial enlistment period, or four years' service. It was established on 20 March 2006; however, it recognises qualifying efficient service of current and former Australian Defence Force Regular and Reserve personnel, including National Servicemen, who have served since 3 September 1945. It is estimated that up to one million current and ex-serving personnel are eligible for the award. At 30 June 2010, a total of 242,576 had been awarded. The Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) is the military engineering corps of the Australian Army.
