Cameosis
''Cameosis'' is the fifth studio album by American funk band Cameo, released in April 1980. Reception ''Cameosis'' reached number one on the R&B album charts and number twenty five on the Billboard 200 album charts. It was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies in the US. The two singles, "We're Goin' Out Tonight" and " Shake Your Pants", charted on the R&B singles charts at number 11 and 8 respectively. However, "Shake Your Pants" received considerable radio play as an album track, and was already a bonafide hit prior to being released as a single. The album's closing track, "Why Have I Lost You", was a new version of the same song that had been released on the band's second album. This re-recorded rendition also received considerable airplay, and has remained a staple of the late night "quiet storm" format at urban adult contemporary radio. Cameo (band)
Cameo is an American funk band that formed in 1974. Cameo was initially a 14-member group known as the New York City Players; this name was later changed to Cameo. As of the first half of 2009, some of the original members continued to perform together. Two other original members were hired by the hip hop group Outkast. In 2015, Cameo announced a new residency show at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, opening in March 2016. On February 20, 2019, Larry Blackmon of Cameo announced "El Passo", the first new single from the band in 19 years. Chocolate City Records
Chocolate City Records was a record label subsidiary of Casablanca Records & Filmworks. It was started in 1975 by Cecil Holmes, Neil Bogart's partner at Casablanca. Its name was a reference to the album '' Chocolate City'' by The Parliaments. The label featured artists such as Cameo, founded by Larry Blackmon. In 1980 the label was sold to PolyGram along with Casablanca, which are now part of Universal Music Group; in 1983 Chocolate City Records went out of business and Cecil Holmes left Casablanca Records & Filmworks and went on to be the VP of Black music for CBS Records. Recording history The label's first group were The New York City Players, who later changed their name to '' Cameo'', with singles "Find My Way" and "Rigor Mortis". Larry Blackmon
Larry Ernest Blackmon (born May 29, 1956) is an American vocalist and musician, known as the lead singer, founder and frontman of the funk and R&B band Cameo. Musical career Starting the band "East Coast", Blackmon formed the "New York City Players" as a complement to the Ohio Players. Having to rename the group because of a conflict, Blackmon later called the group Cameo. Blackmon lived in Harlem and played drums on several hits for the band Black Ivory. He is the son of Lee Black, a former boxer. Along with his unique vocal style, Blackmon's other personal touches included sporting an elaborate hi-top fade haircut and a codpiece over his pants. His signature "Ow!" was used as the intro for some of the band's songs. The ad lib is heavily favored by Wayne MVSEVM and is used to express amazement or excitement.
