Calle Tarata
Tarata Street (), known also as the Solidarity Promenade (), is a pedestrian street in Miraflores, Lima, Peru. It runs from west to east for 2 blocks, and is located next to José Larco Avenue. History On July 16, 1992, the street was the location of a terrorist attack carried out by terrorist group Sendero Luminoso. The attack originally targeted the bank in the street's intersection with Larco Avenue, but ended up taking place in the middle of the street, where a memorial is now located. At the time of the attack, the street was open to transit, but was later changed to a pedestrian-only street. The street is the location of residential buildings ''El Condado'', ''San Pedro'', ''Tarata'', ''Residencial Central'' and ''San Carlos''. Miraflores, founded as San Miguel de Miraflores, is a Districts of Peru, district of Lima Province, in Peru. Internal Conflict In Peru
The internal conflict in Peru is an armed conflict between the Government of Peru and the Maoist guerrilla group Shining Path. The conflict's main phase began on 17 May 1980 and ended in December 2000. From 1982 to 1997 the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) waged its own insurgency as a Marxist–Leninist rival to the Shining Path. As fighting intensified in the 1980s, Peru had one of the worst human rights records in the Western Hemisphere and experienced thousands of forced disappearances while both the Peruvian Armed Forces and Shining Path acted with impunity, sometimes massacring entire villages. 50,000 to 70,000 people were killed, making it the bloodiest war in the country's independent history.
