Migration is mostly from other areas of New Brunswick (especially the north), Nova Scotia (13%), and Ontario (9%). 62% of new arrivals to the city are Anglophone and 38% are Francophone. History Of Moncton
The history of Moncton extends back thousands of years, with its first inhabitants being the First Nations of the region, such as the Mi'kmaq. Located in New Brunswick, Moncton's motto is ''Resurgo'', which is Latin for ''I rise again''. This motto was originally chosen in celebration of the city's rebirth in 1875 after the recovery of the economy from the collapse of the shipbuilding industry. The city again lived up to its motto in more recent times, when the economy of the city was devastated once more during the 1980s as a result of the city's largest employers (the CN repair shops, the Eaton's catalogue division, and CFB Moncton) all departing the city in short order. The city has since rebounded due to growth in the light manufacturing, technology, distribution, tourism, and retail sectors of the economy and is now the fastest growing city in Canada east of Toronto. Irishtown Nature Park
Irishtown Nature Park is a large urban park located on the northern edge of Moncton within the city of Moncton, New Brunswick ( Tankville). At 9 km2 it is one of the largest urban parks in Canada. Sport and recreation The park has a large (1.20 km2) lake which is popular for kayaking and canoeing. The park is also used for hiking, mountain biking and snowshoeing in the winter. There are several historic displays within the park including a small museum consisting of a fully restored one-room school. There is also a set of signs relating to the park's history as the city of Moncton's first water supply dating back to the mid 19th century.
