Cairo, Oregon
Cairo is an unincorporated community in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. Its elevation is above sea level. It is about southwest of Ontario and a half mile north of Cairo Junction, where U.S. Route 20 and U.S. Route 26, running concurrently with Oregon Route 201, turn south towards Nyssa. Route 201 also continues north from Cairo Junction through Cairo and towards Ontario. Cairo was a station on the Oregon Short Line Railroad (OSL) to Vale. Nyssa, Oregon
Nyssa ( ) is a city in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. The population was 3,267 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Snake River on the Idaho border, in the region of far eastern Oregon known as the "Treasure Valley". It is part of the Ontario, OR–ID Micropolitan Statistical Area. The primary industry in the region is agriculture, including the cultivation of Russet potatoes, sugar beets, onions, corn, flower seed, mint, and wheat. The city's economy relies on the surrounding agricultural area with its several large onion and potato packaging plants. Ontario School District 8C (OSD) is a school district headquartered in Ontario, Oregon. The district is entirely in Malheur County. History Previously students at Four Rivers Community School, a charter school, were allowed to join extracurricular teams at District 8C campuses, but the district ended this in 2016. Vale, Oregon
Vale is a city in and the county seat of Malheur County, Oregon, United States, approximately west of the Idaho border. It is at the intersection of U.S. Routes 20 and 26, on the Malheur River at its confluence with Bully Creek. Vale was selected as Malheur's county seat in 1888 in a vote where other candidate communities were Ontario and Jordan Valley. Oregon Short Line Railroad
The Oregon Short Line Railroad was a railroad in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Montana and Oregon in the United States. The line was organized as the Oregon Short Line Railway in 1881 as a subsidiary of the Union Pacific Railway.
