Știința Bacău is a Romanian women's handball team based in Bacău, which competes in Divizia A, the second level of the Romanian women's handball championships. The team represents the women's handball section of the multi-sport club CS Știința Bacău, which also include athletics, badminton, karate, women's and men's volleyball sections. The club also had men's football and handball sections in the past. Divizia A (women's Handball)
The Divizia A is the second level of the Romanian women's professional handball system. The league comprises twenty nine teams. History This sport was first played in Romania in 1920. After a visit in Germany, a few physical education teachers introduced this sport in their classes. The ''Divizia A'' was founded in 1933 (in 11 players) and in 1958 in the current format with 7 players. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Mariana Tîrcă (born 9 October 1962) is a retired Romanian handball player. She is considered a living legend of the Romanian and international handball, being voted top 5 women handball players of the 20th century. She has played 335 games for the Romanian national team, and scored 2043 goals. Narcisa Georgeta Lecuşanu (née Paunica; born 14 September 1976 in Bacău, Socialist Republic of Romania) is a retired Romanian handballer who played for the Romania women's national handball team, Romanian national team. She received a silver medal in the 2005 World Women's Handball Championship, 2005 World Championship. She also participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics held at Beijing (China), where Romania placed seventh. She was included in the European Handball Federation Hall of Fame in 2023. The EHF Women's Champions League is the competition for the top women's team handball, handball clubs in Europe, organised annually by the European Handball Federation (EHF). It is the most prestigious tournament for clubs, with the champions of Europe's top national leagues participating. Tournament structure Each year, the EHF publishes a ranking list of its member federations. The first 27 nations are allowed to participate in the tournament with their national champion. Știința Bacău was a Romanian football team located in Bacău, founded in 1965 and dissolved in 1975. The team represented the football section of the multi-sport club CS Știința Bacău, which also include athletics, women's handball, men's handball, women's and men's volleyball sections. The short ten years history of the team was a rich one in memories and successful achievements, advancing quickly from the city championship to second division. History The Bacău Pedagogical Institute football team was founded in August 1965 by the young coach Corneliu Costinescu. Starting from the city championship, the representative of Bacău students occupied the 1st place at the end of the 1965–66 season, advancing in Bacău Regional Championship.
